Yes! You Can Still Run During Physical Therapy.

Each month, Iron Physical Therapy highlights a special patient to tell their inspiring story. We want to honor people who go all in - body, mind and spirit. They show us what’s possible - that you can move on from a setback to do amazing things...to challenge your body, to chase your dreams, to address future pain in a healthy way, to #getbetterbebetter. “If you blink you may miss this runner as he collects all his many miles!  Bill really understands the importance of recovery and strengthening to keep him going. If he had a hiccup this year and found himself in pain, he knew he had to make a change so he didn’t have to stop!

Bill constantly works hard and is the first to say, “let’s try it”, even if an exercise seems complicated! His sense of humor and positive disposition is felt throughout the MP walls!  Watch out!  Big things coming this year!”

In Bill’s Own Words

1) How would you describe yourself?

I have three phrases — Older than I used to be, Stronger than I used to be, Smarter than I used to be!

2) What Brought You Into Physical Therapy?

Running injuries caused by inconsistent training and not following the basics of a strength routine.

3) How would you describe physical therapy?

PT assembles small adjustments and strengthening to allow your body to heal itself.  PT is hard work under supervision to allow a patient to increase range of motion, improve balance and strength, and create stability – all in the name of being better and doing better.

4) What exercise or technique helped you the most?

I am a fan of the Graston Technique.  I have found the fascial release achieved with Graston, combined with strengthening and stretching, made a big difference for some lingering hamstring tendonitis.

5) What would you say to someone who is living in pain and putting off physical therapy?

What are you waiting for?  You want to Get better? Be better?  Each day you are not able to be your best is a day you don’t get to enjoy to the fullest.

6) What activities are you most excited about getting back to?

I am fortunate.  By having a good dialogue throughout my treatment with Dr. Wortman, I have adjusted my running effort to allow me to keep running through my course of physical therapy.  I really look forward to that first race when I can really open up and go, knowing I have done all the right things to get to the starting line.

7) What did you enjoy most about your PT experience?

Feeling stronger.  Seeing improvement.  It is amazing what a few weeks of steady work will do to fix something that has been hurting me or holding me back for months.
