Take care of yourself from home

“The telehealth conference was terrific and my DPT provided helpful feedback!”

“I’m looking forward to another productive session tomorrow! Thanks for continuing to do what you do!”

What is Telehealth for PT?

Simply put, telehealth for physical therapy (or virtual physical therapy) is an alternative to in-person appointments with your DPT. This digital communication is a convenient and effective pill free option to reduce pain, have a new issue evaluated, stay on track with your recovery or work on your weaknesses to avoid future injury….all while eliminating any possible exposure to Coronavirus.

You don’t need to have a major injury or any special equipment to see results from at-home PT. A patient called the other day because she was experiencing back and neck pain now that she’s working from home. In a few sessions, her DPT was able to help her manage discomfort with a few easy exercises and also set up a much healthier workstation to prevent future issues.

how does teleheaLth work?

Appointments will be conducted via a live video call with your DPT who will send you an email with a link to Zoom before your session. All you have to do is click the link a few minutes before your appointment time to join the call!

Zoom is available through your iPhone, Android, iPad, and Computer.

What will I be doing during my session?

Your session is one-on-one with your DPT and the average appointment lasts 30-40 minutes.

Your DPT will lead your individualized physical therapy session, but it will typically include things such as:

  • A discussion of how you’re doing including plenty of motivation and accountability to keep progressing!

  • Establishing, updating and overseeing therapeutic exercises that will keep you getting stronger

  • Uncovering movement deficits that can be addressed right from home

  • Recommendations or adjustments to your daily activities and/or workouts

  • A comprehensive home program so you can stay on track in between telehealth sessions

How will i prepare for my session?

Wear comfortable clothes, just as if you were in the clinic. As for equipment, the requirements are minimal for your session! Your DPT can help you work with things around the house and can get you basic items like resistance bands, if required.

What treatments can you do over telehealth?

Since our video calls are “real time”, they can be used to help with most things that we see in the clinic from acute pain, chronic conditions and improved sports performance to post-surgical rehab and injury prevention.

You might be asking yourself, “Isn’t physical therapy hands on?” It’s a good question. After all, our DPTs are trained to use their hands to heal. However, they are also equipped with an abundance of additional knowledge.

While manual therapy is an important component of PT, we have lots of other tools we can use to address new issues or keep you on track while eliminating any possible exposure to Coronavirus. Through a video call, our DPTs are able to talk to you about your pain, assess your movements, and give you the therapeutic exercises suited to goals.

why should i consider telehealth ?

Owner and DPT, Dr. Geno Mayes says, “A one-on-one virtual appointment can address a wide range of issues from chronic pain you’ve been dealing with for months to preventing injury with targeted exercises while you are taking a break from competitive sports.”
