HWPO (Hard work pays off).

That phrase fits this month's Patient of the Month, Matt, for sure! When this active dad was faced with a big injury resulting in surgery, he knew he had to put in the hard work to get back to the activities he enjoys…and he did! Never liking to hear "slow and steady", he made sure he constantly made gains and now he's on his comeback tour!

- Dr. Marnie Wortman, DPT

In Matt’s Own Words…

1) List Three Words to Describe You:

Consistent, Good learner, Grateful

2)  What Brought You Into Physical Therapy?

I came to Iron PT for post-surgery rehab for a ruptured pec tendon.

3) How would you describe physical therapy?

Physical therapy is getting your body to learn (or re-learn) how to properly move or stabilize itself.

4)  What exercise or technique helped you most?

Active Release Technique and assisted stretching!

5)  What would you say to someone who is living in pain and putting off physical therapy?

You owe it to yourself to get the attention and professional assistance. It will take time to get better, so get started and put in the work!

6) What are you excited to get back to after physical therapy?

I’m glad to have already achieved “regular” life again post-surgery. Having the ability to just do everyday things again was huge for me with two little kids at home…I was the third liability for a bit. So it’s good to be back in the plus side. I’m looking forward to getting the intensity back in the gym and playing basketball with friends.

6) What did you enjoy most about the physical therapy experience?

Constant communication about the physical therapy plan and milestones - It was always positive and focused on finding ways to do things with the current state I was in. Doing nothing and just waiting for recovery was never the right approach. Physical therapy kept me motivated and constantly striving for that next step in recovery.
